The direct drive system uses a slowly rotating motor to directly drive the platter. This system has several advantages. It offers high performance such as rotational precision and powerful torque, requires no replacement of parts, and maintains high reliability over a long period of time. On the other hand, the direct drive system apparently produced an irregular rotation called "cogging." For the SL-1210MK7, a new coreless direct drive motor was developed. This motor uses a coreless stator. Removing the core (iron core) from the stator eliminated the main cause of cogging. In addition, the magnetic force of the rotor magnets was improved to the best possible level, and the gap between the coreless stator and the rotor magnets was optimized, thus achieving high torque performance similar to that of the SL-1210MK5. With smooth rotation and powerful torque, this motor accurately and faithfully reproduces sound from the groove of an analog record.

Torque/stop speed adjustment
New digital motor control technology, accumulated through the development of Blu-ray Disc products, is applied to improve adjustment by allowing torque and stall speed to be individually adjusted in four steps.

Tone control function
The pitch control function allows fine adjustment of the rotation speed within ±8%/ ±16%. This is achieved through digital control, from positional sensing of the slider to rotational control of the motor, eliminating unnecessary D/A conversion. This greatly improves tracking performance to achieve precise and stable pitch adjustment.

Reverse playback function
Offering new possibilities for creative performance, the reverse playback function makes its first appearance on the SL-1210 series. In addition to 33-1/3 rpm and 45 rpm, it supports a rotation speed of 78 rpm.

The tonearm, which has continued to support the forefront of the DJ scene for many years, inherits the highly reliable, statically balanced, universal S-shaped tonearm. Using high-precision bearings, it achieves higher initial motion sensitivity than the SL-1210MK6. This allows precise tracking of the groove on the record to ensure excellent tracking performance with minimal needle jump even under difficult playing conditions such as scratching.

The needle illuminator features a new push-type structure for intuitive operation and employs a long-lasting, high-brightness white LED. The illumination area and intensity were revised to provide better visibility of the needle tip, even in a dark environment.

The power and phono cable terminals allow for separation of the cables. The phono terminals are gold plated to minimize degradation of sound quality. Since the terminals allow the cables to be disconnected, maintenance is easier.

The cover, an essential part to reduce external vibrations, inherits the audio quality improvement technology fostered through the development of high-end turntables. The die-cast aluminum cover is rigidly integrated with a special ABS material mixed with fiberglass to achieve a two-layer construction. The combination of this special high-rigidity material and the metal casing increased the rigidity and vibration damping performance to higher levels, achieving a robust enclosure for splendid sound reproduction. The isolator is composed of a spring and rubber to provide optimal frequency characteristics. This not only ensures high sound quality and excellent feedback resistance, but also eliminates external vibrations under high sound conditions.
